Design for the Next Generation

Fellowship of the Woodlands church in Houston recently completed an ambitious building program that included a fellowship plaza, baptismal fountain and prayer garden, bookstore and cafe, and a Chapel in the Woods. The primary feature, however, was a children's minisrty building.
It's designed for 3200 kids in clusters of age related venues. Going against a trend of the past few years, they utlize "timeless" design and architecture vs. creating themed design space. They create themes utilizing props and extensive AVL applications.
Key takeaways:
*Vision must be clear
*Space allocation important in design planning
*Keep non-negotiables up-front
*Opening of a new facility should be a great opportunity to impact community
*Design-build team needs to hear the heartbeat of the church
